Technologist 

As a member of the Crankcase Development Technology team, I am responsible for scoping out and developing innovative formulations to meet emerging crankcase lubricant requirements. My main work involves developing fundamental understanding of additives and base oils in areas applicable to lubricant performance. I develop passenger car motor oil formulations through numerous engine and bench testing for sludge and deposit control, oxidation and viscosity control, friction and wear (fuel economy), and extended drain benefits in gasoline combustion engines. I also support new component and product developments, and actively participate in component pull-through and deployment processes.

The fundamental and technical knowledge generated from our studies on components and formulations is used to create core and differentiated products and services that add value for Infineum. It also cements our corporate brand as a technology company that delivers excellence.

Every day brings a new challenge that requires solving. Daily activities could range from supervising a laboratory technician in making blends, analyzing data from engine and bench tests, preparing and delivering presentations to an internal audience, and attending group and external meetings – through to brainstorming sessions to solve challenging problems related to projects.

I enjoy learning about why certain additives work while others don’t, and being able to find solutions to problems. My work brings me in contact with people from different departments in the company (Marketing, Industry Liaison, etc.). It is always nice to see things from their perspective and, thereby, broaden not only my technical knowledge, but that of the industry as a whole as well.

I’ve had several great opportunities to work on new and challenging projects, while also promoting the company’s core additives business. I’ve had the privilege of working on a reformulation project with direct involvement in the deployment phase of the product. My current projects have me interacting with a major OEM in developing lubricant solutions for their new engine technologies.

Over the years my responsibilities have grown. I’ve progressed from being a member of a team working on specific aspects of a project to working on several projects simultaneously, and overseeing and leading other projects.
