Lubricity Additives 

Concerns over diesel engine emissions have led to new regulations to reduce the fuel sulphur and aromatics content in diesel fuel. Refinery hydro-desulphurisation of diesel fuel can reduce or eliminate naturally occurring lubricity agents.  Fuels that have been subjected to deep hydro-desulphurisation can cause accelerated wear in diesel injection equipment and result in catastrophic failure of injection pumps.

Infineum's predecessor was an early marketer of lubricity improvers (LI) for low sulphur diesel fuels, and was the additive company involved in the development of the high frequency reciprocating rig [HFRR test]. Infineum has developed a broad range of specifically designed lubricity additives that are covered by a portfolio of patents. These products provide robust HFRR performance across a wide spectrum of middle-distillate fuels and are applicable in a broad range of temperature climates, including Scandinavia, the United States and Canada. Crucially, a number of Infineum products are approved as additives for diesel fuels transported in multipurpose pipelines.

Infineum’s lubricity improvers can cost-effectively restore a fuel’s lubricity to the required performance level,and have extensive harms-free field results. Our broad spectrum of lubricity additive chemistries from which customers can select their preferred treat costs includes esters, neutral salts and mono-acids. These products have also been demonstrated to be effective in the ultra-low suphur heating oils and hydrogenated vegetable oils that are now penetrating the markets.

Infineum works closely with industry leaders in the petroleum industry, OEMs and FIE (Fuel Injection Equipment) manufacturers. This gives us the ability to continuously develop fit-for-purpose advanced products, including cold flow improvers, and crude oil and heavy fuel oil flow improvers  as fuel qualities, specifications and handling requirements evolve.
