Infineum Receives a 2009 Responsible Care Sustained Excellence Award

4/2/2009  - Infineum's success in achieving extremely high standards in the areas of safety, health, environment, security, and community outreach has been recognised with the American Chemistry Council 2009 Responsible Care® Sustained Excellence Award

Infineum's hard work and continued success in achieving extremely high standards in the areas of safety, health, environment, security, and community outreach has been recognised with the American Chemistry Council 2009 Responsible Care® Sustained Excellence Award in the small company category. ACC will present awards at its annual meeting in June to one company in each category, small, medium, and large.

Liz Garcia, Infineum USA L.P.'s public affairs and Responsible Care® manager, accepts American Chemistry Council's 2008 Responsible Care Leadership Award at the organizations 136th annual meeting banquet, from Jack Gerard (left), former ACC president, and Bob Wood, chairman of the board.

To be considered for the Sustained Excellence Award, a company must have an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) incidence rate of injury and illnesses in its workplace - one of the most common methods of measuring safety performance lower than 90 percent of all ACC member companies in the same category. In addition, it must demonstrate a positive trend in other performance metrics: a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency, and the utilization of best practices in communications with its surrounding communities and key stakeholders, among others. The winner is chosen on the basis of both quantitative and qualitative measures that demonstrate sustained performance excellence over time. This award is the most prestigious given under ACC's Responsible Care initiative.

Infineum's commitment to the Responsible Care ethic drives multiple activities with its employees, customers, local communities and other stakeholders. Employees participate in numerous behavioral-based safety observation programs, which allow them to increase their awareness and eliminate at-risk behaviors. One of the most outstanding activities developed as a continuous improvement to an already robust program, "On the Road to Zero Injuries" Workshops, was kicked off in January 2008.

The Workshops are aimed to develop different ways to ensure all Infineum employees stay safely focused and engaged on the job at hand. Several of the workshops sessions include open dialogue and debate to improve communication between labor and management.

"We are proud to be recognised with ACC's 2009 Responsible Care Sustained Excellence Award; this is a nice addition to the many awards Infineum has received since its formation in 1999. In 2008, the company was recognised with ACC’s Responsible Care Leadership Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership in key aspects of Responsible Care," said Liz Garcia, Infineum USA L.P. public affairs and Responsible Care manager.
