The Infineum
Bayway Chemical Plant received one of six Heldrich Awards that were
presented recently to New Jersey businesses at the Rutgers University
Edward J. Blounstein School of Planning and Public Policy. Infineum
was honored with this prestigious award for its continuous efforts
to develop and improve the skills of its workforce. Former NJ Congressman
Bob Franks, Honorary Chair of the Heldrich Awards Advisory Board,
delivered remarks and congratulated the awards recipients.
The John J.
Heldrich Awards program recognizes exemplary workplace practices
of New Jersey employers. In spotlighting effective and creative
responses to workplace challenges, it recognizes those companies/organizations
that have instituted model programs to improve the lives of workers
and strengthen New Jersey's economy.
The Heldrich
Awards seek to encourage excellence and widespread replication of
"best practices" by providing powerful and credible examples
across four awards categories: Promoting Workplace Equity and Diversity,
Developing Worker Skills, Balancing Work and Family, and Strengthening
Connections between School and the Workplace.
Infineum exceeded criteria in the Developing Worker Skills category
by sponsoring a myriad of programs. The Bayway Chemical Plant was
honored for its Learning Management System program, which was implemented
in July 1999 to train new technicians and update the skills of existing
technicians. The System incorporates self-paced computer-based training,
in-house classroom training, and on-the-job training designed to
ensure that all technicians at the plant follow safety and operating
requirements consistently.
