Life-long performance – careful viscosity modifier selection is essentialLife-long performance – careful viscosity modifier selection is essential
In December 2006 Insight reported on the importance of the retention of low temperature pumpability performance of engine oils throughout their lifetime. As the base stock picture changes, engine size decreases and consumers demand longer oil drain intervals, Infineum has been investing in research to further assess this essential performance characteristic.  Insight now reports on the findings which were presented by Dhanesh Goberdhan at the 16th International Colloquium Tribology Conference held in January at the Technische Akademie Esslingen, Germany.

Group III base stock interchange – drivers and challenges
With an unprecedented period of complexity and change in the global base stock market as a backdrop, experts from around the world presented papers on a range of topics at the ICIS Pan-American Base Oils Conference in New York in November.  Infineum’s paper, delivered by Brian Crichton, Infineum Global Industry Liaison Manager, aims to contribute to the industry debate on base oil interchange for API Group III base stocks.

Increasing pressure for change - advances in fuel injection systems for Euro 5 and beyondIncreasing pressure for change - advances in fuel injection systems for Euro 5 and beyond
As the European Union prepares to launch new environmental legislation for passenger cars in the form of Euro 5 and 6 and the focus on the reduction CO2 emissions increases, so light-duty diesel OEMs and fuel injection equipment manufacturers set about the task of modifying the configuration of the engine, injection system and aftertreatment devices to meet these future tough emissions requirements.

Cow power – biogas could be a viable alternative to oil for power generationCow power – biogas could be a viable alternative to oil for power generation
With escalating crude oil prices, tougher emissions legislation to reduce oxides of nitrogen and sulphur and carbon dioxide and a desire to reduce their carbon footprint power producers are looking for alternative technologies to meet the burgeoning global demand for energy.  Insight takes a closer look at this changing market and examines just which options are being explored.

Understanding clean diesel and biofuels Understanding clean diesel and biofuels
A round up of Infineum’s North American Fuels Trends presentation which was delivered at over 20 customer and OEM sites and which examines the development of cleaner diesel fuel and biofuels introduction in the increasingly complex fuels market.

Biodiesel stability concerns – Oxidation during storage and transport can cause field issuesBiodiesel stability concerns – Oxidation during storage and transport can cause field issues
As industry understanding of biodiesel increases and as its use, in one form or another, spreads across the globe so issues associated with it are continually being uncovered.  Insight takes a closer look at one of these issues: the propensity for biodiesel made from fatty acid methyl esters to oxidise during storage, transport and distribution.
