Infineum Insight issue number 38

Advanced injectors need advantaged fuelsAdvanced injectors need advantaged fuels
Bosch and Infineum have been working together to better understand the formation of internal injector deposits - just one of the challenges that must be resolved to enable the benefits of this advanced hardware to be realised. This article looks at the different types of internal injector deposit and concludes that the use of neutral lubricity additives, which do not have the ability to further react with other compounds present in the fuel, represents the best way to avoid internal injector deposits in markets where fuels need to provide excellent lubricity and detergency.

Superior component chemistry - the secret ingredientSuperior component chemistry - the secret ingredient
As industry drivers and customer requirements become increasingly demanding so we must ask even more from the complex components that lie at the heart of lubricant formulations. In a series of articles Insight takes a close look at the art and science behind the successful component development that helps differentiate Infineum’s technology.

A fine balancing act - delivering friction and wear protection with low viscosity fluidsA fine balancing act - delivering friction and wear protection with low viscosity fluids
There has been much discussion in the industry about the theoretical benefits and risks of using low viscosity lubricants to deliver fuel economy benefits in heavy-duty diesel engines. Insight examines the findings of a joint paper from Infineum, Petronas Lubricants International (PLI), and Iveco, delivered at the 2008 Esslingen Colloquium, which presented the real-world results of their extensive collaborative testing of SAE 0W-20 fuel economy oils in heavy-duty vehicles.

Face to Face - action needed to strengthen biodiesel market Face to Face - action needed to strengthen biodiesel market
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Qualitaetsmanagement Biodiesel e.V. (AGQM) is an association representing many of Germany’s biofuel producers and trading companies. Its Chairman, Dr Juergen Fischer, took time out of his busy schedule to talk to Insight about his views on the current and future issues being faced by the industry.

New fluids for advanced transmissionsNew fluids for advanced transmissions
As fuel economy improvements become increasingly important, the automotive industry is looking at the whole drivetrain for potential fuel savings. In the case of the automatic transmission this scrutiny has led to an increase in the number of gears, the aggressive use of continuously slipping clutches and the introduction of advanced fluids. Insight presents an overview of a paper on these new advanced automatic transmission fluids which was presented jointly by Infineum and Hyundai Kia Motors at the 2008 Fuels and Lubes Asia Conference in Korea.

China Lubricants Market – Quality upgrade continuesChina Lubricants Market – Quality upgrade continues
In recent years, companies across the globe have been eyeing the Chinese market in light of its fast economic development. And since this economic growth brings increased personal wealth, enabling more and more Chinese people to buy vehicles, the global lubricants industry has joined those companies showing increased interest in the region. Insight is pleased to publish a feature based on an interview with Mr Li Liang Yao, Vice President of Sinopec Lubricant Company, which reveals his insights into the Chinese lubricant market and suggests that the overall quality of lubricants will continue to improve and that we can expect substantial growth in the market, though perhaps not as great as we have seen in recent years..
