Dispersants
Help suspend solid contaminants in the oil, inhibit and disperse sludge,
soot and other insolubles and reduce the formation of varnish deposits.
Detergents
Neutralize acidic blow by gases, control rust, reduce lacquer and prevent
deposits on components such as pistons.
Antiwear Agents
Form a protective film over the metal surface, reducing scuffing and wear
especially on valve gear, cams and followers.
Antioxidants
Hot oil can oxidize in the presence of air, causing it to become acidic
and producing sludge. Antioxidants interfere with this chemical mechanism,
vastly reducing the rate of oil deterioration and extending the life of
the oil and engine seals.
Viscosity Modifiers
Unique polymers to improve the viscosity characteristics of the lubricant
through a broad temperature range
Pour Point Depressants
Additive used to lower the pour point or low-temperature fluidity characteristics
of the lubricant.
Friction Modifiers
Enhance vehicle fuel economy by reducing the metal to metal friction,
since less energy is wasted in overcoming engine friction.
Antifoam Agents
An additive used to change the surface tension between air and oil, so
bubbles break-up rapidly and prevent foam formation.
Antirust Additives
Prevents the formation of rust by forming a surface film to protect the
metal
Corrosion Inhibitors
Additives that protect lubricated metal surfaces from chemical attack
by water or other contaminants.
