Concerns over emissions from diesel engines have led to new regulations to reduce fuel sulphur and aromatics content in diesel fuel. Refinery hydro-desulphurisation of diesel fuel can reduce or eliminate naturally occurring lubricity agents in the fuel. Fuels that have been subjected to deep hydro-desulphurisation can cause accelerated wear in diesel injection equipment and result in catastrophic failure of injection pumps. In 1991, the introduction of the very low sulphur and low aromatics diesel fuel in Sweden led to widespread fuel injection pump failures.
Lubricity Improver additives are able to restore the fuels lubricity to the required performance level. Infineum lubricity improver additives, Infineum R series, have extensive harm-free field experience, providing lubricity protection throughout the world, which has followed the Swedish example and is moving to low Sulphur levels (from 500 ppm down to 10 ppm). To find a detailed list of lubricity additive products available to you, please do not hesitate to contact your local sales representative or contact us.
