This challenging role is critical to delivering “nobody gets hurt” at the Bayway Chemical Plant.  The HSSE Engineer is responsible for developing and executing Bayway’s Safety Program.  While experience in a manufacturing environment is a must, expertise in Safety administration is not a necessary requirement and training will be provided if required. 

Key Outputs: What we can expect from you
  • To provide ownership of the Bayway Safety Program and OSHA compliance
  • Steward the site Industrial Hygiene plan and act as Radiation Safety Officer 
  • Secretary and/or Lead several HSSE committees 
  • Responsible for data collation, analysis and trending and maintenance of HSSE data bases
  • Provide HSSE input to new projects and design 
  • Responsible for all aspects of the incident investigation systems on site 
  • Provide HSSE training and lead safety workshops 
  • Deliver the monthly Safety Leaders Lunch
  • Key member of the Emergency Response Organisation
  • Support Plant Teams’ goals to provide a safe and effective workplace by delivering and deploying training to field personnel on safety initiatives
  • Experience with OSHA research and interpretation 
  • Any additional responsibilities as assigned
A successful candidate is likely to have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred or 7-10 years' of relevant work experience required
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is a plus
  • Experience with safety and health in manufacturing environment including 29 CFR 1910 and other state and federal regulations (is desirable but not required)
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • An ability to work collaboratively with all Bayway functions and external stakeholders 
  • An ability to influence colleagues at all levels
  • A willingness to act on their own initiative and to be responsive to the needs of others
  • An ability to plan and prioritise their own time (and that of others) to achieve objectives
