08 November 2018
Our Cologne site has celebrated 60 years by looking towards the future as well as recognising past Infineum achievements.
Fortunately the sun shone over visitors old and young, including former and current employees and their families, as well as interested guests and neighbours from the community, who took part in a wide range of activities to mark the day.
Open Door Team 2018
An organised tour of the factory site proved to be a magnet to visitors with hourly buses filled to the last seat. Enthusiastic visitors enjoyed the entertaining and interesting information given by tour guides Operations Manager Andreas Haehnsen, Engineering Specialist Manuel Groess and Lubes Technologist Jöerg Simon.
The event was run as part of the German Chemical Association’s ‘Open Door Day’ initiative held across Germany every four years, however, the 60-year anniversary was its key focus and a rarely used bicycle shed was transformed into an exhibition area containing lots of information and photos from the past. This proved particularly popular with older visitors and former ExxonMobil colleagues.
The professionally created timeline made it possible to journey into the past. But the exhibition looked to the future too with important topics such as collaboration with schools, education and Inclusiveness & Diversity featuring. Our products, our safety philosophy and our actions in the interests of the environment were also communicated to guests.
Hands-on activities kept guests (big and small) entertained and informed. They could have a go with a fire extinguisher thanks to the presence of the fire brigade, or score a goal, as encouraged by a local sports club. Advice on relaxation exercises was also part of a focus on a healthy lifestyle. A tank container, provided by Spedition Hoyer, in which our products can be transported around the globe was another draw.
Finally, a selection of food trucks was on hand to serve guests who had worked up a healthy appetite throughout the day.
Lots of positive feedback from visitors showed the day was a big success.
