Colleagues at our Milton Hill and Vado Ligure sites displayed their support for individuals battling cancer by cutting and donating their hair.
Federica Modugno, HR Manager Italy and Spain at our Vado Ligure site, and Tim Knowles, Technologist at our Milton Hill site, had both donated their hair to local organisations that create wigs for cancer patients.
Federica donated her hair to ‘Un angelo per capello‘ (An angel for hair), an Italian non-profit organisation that makes free wigs for cancer patients who are unable to afford them. This was her second time donating hair for this cause.
She says “I have always loved having long hair but when I found out that it could be donated, I decided that I wanted to do it. Hair, long or short, often represents a big part of a woman’s identity. I’d like to believe that the hair I donated was symbolically intertwined with strength, energy and hope, which I could pass on to someone going through a difficult time.”
Tim had donated his hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity based in the UK which provides free wigs to children and young adults who experienced hair loss through cancer treatment or other medical conditions. It is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.
He says “I wanted to do something for those in need in my community. I decided that when I finally braved the shave, I would donate my hair to The Little Princess Trust, supporting children and young adults fighting cancer.”
