Aligning with Infineum’s efforts to develop the next generation of STEM talent in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), our Japan site recently collaborated with local teachers and education authorities in Ota City, Tokyo, to enhance STEM education for elementary school students.

Since 2022, our Japan colleagues has volunteered to run annual STEM workshops for students at Chofu-Otsuka Elementary School in Ota City. These workshops served to cultivate the students’ interest in the STEM field.

A closer partnership was formed between Infineum, Chofu-Otsuka Elementary School, and the Ota City Board of Education, through the sharing of best practices for STEM education. This collaboration was a part of Ota City’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) programme and its STEM education curriculum ‘Creating the Future of Ota City’ rolled out this year.

To help educators learn more about Infineum, our values, as well as our STEM and Inclusion initiatives, Japan colleagues gave a presentation to teachers and officials.

Colleagues also attended small-group discussions with the school’s teachers in Ota City, exploring beneficial ways to further improve STEM education for young students.

The series of STEM workshops and activities conducted by Japan colleagues for fifth grade students at the school, touching on sustainability, product design, and supply chains in the automotive industry, was also featured as a model practice in a local textbook.

This textbook is used by 59 schools in Tokyo’s Ota City and highlights the efforts of Infineum alongside other corporations in developing more sustainable design of cars, encouraging students to think about how cars could be used more sustainably.

Collaborating with Infineum offered an exciting opportunity to develop curricular units incorporating real-world scenarios to fulfil learning objectives, as well as helping children to develop three core abilities in creating value, dealing with conflict, and acting responsibly, which the school aims to foster.”

Infineumが科学・技術・工学・数学（STEM）分野の次世代人材育成に取り組む中で、当社の日本拠点は先日、東京都内の教育関係者や先生方と協力し、小学生向けのSTEM教育の向上に貢献する活動をしました。

2022年以降、当社の日本拠点の社員は東京都大田区にある調布大塚小学校で毎年STEMワークショップを開催するボランティア活動を行っており、生徒たちのSTEM分野への関心を育むことを目的としています。

Infineum、調布大塚小学校、大田区教育委員会の間では、STEM教育におけるベストプラクティスの共有を通じて、より密接なパートナーシップが築かれました。この協働は、今年から導入された大田区のSTEM教育カリキュラム「おおたの未来づくり」の一環として行われています。

教育関係者がInfineumの価値観やSTEM・Inclusion活動をより深く理解できるよう、日本の社員が教師や教育委員会関係者に向けてプレゼンテーションを行いました。

社員は大田区の学校の教師と少人数グループでのディスカッションにも参加し、児童向けSTEM教育をさらに向上させるためにどうしたらよいかを議論しました。

日本の社員が実施した一連のSTEMワークショップと活動は、持続可能性、製品設計、自動車業界のサプライチェーンなどをテーマに、5年生を対象として行われました。これらの活動は、地域の教科書にも模範的な取り組みとして掲載されました。

この教科書は東京都大田区内の59校で使用されており、Infineumをはじめとする企業の持続可能な自動車の開発に向けた取り組みを紹介し、生徒たちに「車をより持続可能に使うにはどうすればよいか」を考えるきっかけを与えています。
