#InfineumCARES: Joining Forces for a Cleaner Chongming Island

Volunteering - 28 November 2025

The #InfineumCARES monthly series spotlights the volunteering efforts of colleagues from our sites around the world, as part of our ambition of supporting people and communities where we serve.

Colleagues from our China Business and Technology Centre recently volunteered in the 9th National Beach Clean-up Public Welfare Event, organised by the China Ocean Development Foundation. This annual initiative spans most of China’s coastal cities, aimed at protecting marine ecosystems and inspiring environmental stewardship.

The team of nine worked together to collect debris from Dongtan National Bird Nature Reserve’s coastline on Chongming Island, Shanghai. Our colleagues took special care to protect local wildlife in the process, ensuring their efforts left migratory birds undisturbed.

The day’s activities saw 30.5kg of waste, including plastic bottles, foam fragments and discarded fishing nets, being collected by our team of volunteers.

Hugo Xu, Account Manager and organiser of this volunteering activity, says “Since 2022, we have been actively organising waste-collection opportunities for our colleagues, as part of our sustainability efforts. We were pleased to join together with other organisations to protect our coastlines through this initiative. The team was surprised to find so many plastic bottles near the Yangzi River’s entrance to the ocean that could endanger migratory birders and were glad to have played a part in preventing this harm.”

At Infineum, we are pleased to champion meaningful causes that create positive change in our communities. For more information about our sustainability initiatives, please visit: https://www.infineum.com/sustainability/.
