This month, the series features Margareth Carvalho, Global Business Planning Leader, based at our Rio site.  As a dedicated volunteer championing diverse initiatives that impact women, youth, and low-income communities, Margareth uses her ability to build meaningful connections to be an inspiring force for change.

Empowering Women in STEM to Shape the Future

With a strong commitment to empowering women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Margareth serves as a board member of Women in Energy (WIN) Brazil, an initiative of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

As part of the WIN program, Margareth leverages her extensive experience to inspire and guide young women in the energy sector, offering valuable career advice to early-career professionals.

Passionate about transformative efforts to advance inclusion and female leadership in the energy sector, Margareth also dedicates her time to speaking on panels at key industry events, sharing her perspectives to influence decision-makers and create meaningful change.

Creating Lasting Social Impact Through Education

Beyond her work in the STEM industry, Margareth gives back to her local community as an English teacher with Cidadão Pró-Mundo, a non-profit organisation that offers free English classes to students from low-income public schools in Brazil.

By strengthening students’ foundation in the English language, these classes help reduce barriers to higher education and professional opportunities.

In a country where only 5% of the population speaks English, her contribution plays a pivotal role in bridging social gaps and empowering the younger generation through education.

Reflecting on her volunteering experiences, Margareth says “Through volunteering in these meaningful initiatives, I’ve seen how small actions can contribute to shaping a more inclusive future, while inspiring others to grow alongside you. I encourage everyone to take the first step – giving back to causes that truly matter can make more of a difference than you think!”
