Milton Hill Colleagues Inspire the Next Generation of STEM Talent

Volunteering - 19 March 2025

Aligning with Infineum’s efforts to support the development of future generations of talent in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), several colleagues from our Milton Hill site have volunteered in various STEM-related activities organised by local educational institutions.

Inspiring students to pursue unique careers

Tracey Talbot, Regulatory Projects Advisor, volunteered at St Bartholomew’s School’s careers fair. The fair aims to showcase a wide range of unique jobs to students aged 11 to 14 years old, beyond the more traditional and widely known job roles.

Tracey engaged students by sharing more about her role and career journey at Infineum, which had involved a visit to the USA Environmental Protection Agency.

She says “Hopefully, I have inspired some students to pursue future careers in Product Stewardship and Regulatory Compliance.  One student said that my job sounded ‘really cool’ and another commented that ‘I must really love my job’, after I told them that I had worked at Infineum for 20 years!”

Helping students to hone their interview skills

Louise Renouf, Technology Manager, used her volunteering day to conduct mock interviews with Year 10 students at The Hurst School. The volunteering day is a benefit offered to every Infineum employee that allowed them to dedicate an extra day of annual leave to support their community.

Organised by the Education Business Partnership (EBP) and STEM Ambassadors, these mock interviews were part of an initiative empowering STEM students to build confidence, develop their communication skills, and gain real-world knowledge. Besides conducting interviews with students, Louise also provided them with constructive feedback for future interviews, as well as useful industry knowledge.

Supporting STEM students at the University of Warwick

Infineum’s partnership with the University of Warwick provided our Milton Hill colleagues with numerous volunteering opportunities to promote STEM careers to students.

Last year, Infineum supported several STEM initiatives at the University of Warwick, with us continuing this support in 2025.

Helen Hay, Offsite Processing Engineer, Chiara Gregory, and Hannah Young, Chemists, interacted with students at the University’s careers fair for sciences. Students confidently spoke with our colleagues about training and job opportunities available at Infineum.

During the fair, Hannah also provided insights as part of a panel discussion on lab and non-lab careers.

Infineum also supported two prize awards at the University of Warwick in 2024, the Andrew McCamley Prize for Outstanding MChem Project and the Infineum Prize for Outstanding Overall Performance in MChem.

Both awards recognised students for their scientific achievements during their time in university, encouraging them to continue with their hard work in the STEM field.

Infineum actively encourages our colleagues to give back to their local communities through volunteering. For more information about Infineum’s sustainability initiatives, please visit: https://www.infineum.com/sustainability/.
